What Is The Purpose Of A Soul Fast

“Prayer is reaching out after the unseen; fasting is letting go of all that is seen and temporal. Fasting helps express, deepen, confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God.” –Andrew Murray

Every human being on the face of this earth can benefit from a time of soul fasting. Regardless to your religious beliefs or non-religious beliefs, every human being is given the same amount of time, the same opportunity to live a quality and prosperous life. We all have the same human experiences in different shapes, forms and sizes. Therefore, we can all benefit from a time of soul fasting.

As you seek to understand the purpose of a soul fast ask the Holy Spirit God The Creator of the Universe, for guidance and wisdom to understand the nature of YOUR soul. It is imperative to understand that higher power, higher conscience, the Universe whatever you affectionately call whom I refer to as God Elohim the Creator and Judge of the universe!

You are not alone when you feel those waves of despair crashing against your mind. For every one step forward you end up taking two steps back—circling, yet stagnate, bumping up against walls, blind. Every human being is vulnerable to these dreadful warning sign simply by neglecting the life of their soul!

The first step in healing and liberating your soul is making the decision to do so.

If you feel like you’re drowning in a swamp of mental clutter, stress, hurt, loneliness, fear, fuzzy headed, uncertainty, not able to think straight or simply feel emotionally bankrupt—or as if something has a spiritual lien on your soul—you need to stop and clean your inner house!

“Make a clean sweep of your lives,” as it says in Luke 3:16-17(MSG).

The health and energy of your soul will dictate how you experience life! You will prosper and be in health just as your soul prospers.

“I pray for good fortune in everything you do, and for your good health—that your everyday affairs prosper, as well as your soul.” 3 John 2:1 (MSG)

Negative thought patterns, emotions, relationships and other entanglements will keep you from living the abundant life and moving confidently forward in the direction of your dreams. When your soul feeds on toxic worldly junk and thoughts, the same as if you feed your body toxins in the form of junk food, it slows down and ceases to operate to maximum capacity.

This is the time when you need to do a complete cleanse and detoxify your life, body, soul and spirit.

It is wise to fast from the things that destroy your soul and instead feast on the things that nourish it by setting aside time every day to strengthen your inner life.

In my last article “How To Obtain The Freedom to Be Your Authentic Self”, these questions were asked “Why do I do the things that I do?”—“Why do I keep attracting the people I really do not want in my life, and scatering the people I do?”—“How can I break free from negative cycles?”

I discussed how the trivial detail that ties up our souls is one of the most misunderstood things keeping us from running with purpose and certainty. Experiences, events, habits, relationships, desires, and motives, even spirits, continually ensnare our souls holding us back from moving confidently forward in the direction of our dreams.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Is it possible that we are responsible for why things are the way they are. Could it be that our series of unfortunate events are caused by our series of unfortunate decisions?

Ella Wheeler Wilcox an American author and poet known for her “Poems of Passion”, once said “There is no chance, no destiny, no fate that can circumvent or hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul.”

Many times the “who’s responsible one” is starring at us in the mirror right in front of us.

According to Lemony Snicket, the author of “A Series of Unfortunate Events” wrote, “No matter who you are, no matter where you live, and no matter how many people are chasing you, what you don’t read is often as important as what you do read.”

In my opinion there is no better signage available on the road of life than God’s written word. However, most people, even believing Christians don’t give the word of God much thought or attention.

The great rabbi Jesus taught “whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken them to a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24) (NKJV)

Instead many of us go through life so captivated and pre-occupied with what is convenient that they miss what is truly valuable and necessary and as a result, they stay on the road going nowhere building their life on air rather than a solid bed of rocks. “Like a man… who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock.” Luke 6:48 (NKJV)

Let me ask you something… what is your true north?-The navigation of your own hearts compass. Unaddressed and unidentified things will burden your soul, causing you to go through life weighed down, and causing the wind to be knocked right out of you.

However, it is now high time to rise above, get a second wind and “lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1)

Those weights are designed to keep us down, vulnerable to sin, with a dysfunctional set of behaviors that keep us stagnated and going around in circles. These things cause us to never really reach your full potential and keep those around you stagnate as well.

We then become the hurting who hurts and the disappointed that disappoints.

In order to move forward we must ask ourselves, why I do the things I do, why exactly do I attract these kinds of people I don’t want in my life or to be associated with and running away the ones I do want in my life, how can I break these horrible negative cycles in my life, and how can I grow and do something great in my lifetime?

I have learned that people are generally oblivious to how their decisions and thought patterns affect those with whom they interact and vice versa, how our words and decisions affect our own destiny.

It’s all masked in an unsettling silence and acted out in irrational behaviors. This sinking ship of society’s morals and morale takes all passengers down with it.

Let’s be honest, where you are now is a direct result of every decision you have made in the past. Meaning it is the road to the good and bad things in your present moment.

Our life is the sum total of our choices-choices that either enslave or save our soul. It is time that we get established in the knowledge of the truth of God’s Kingdom – knowledge that will set us free regardless of the unfortunate events, decisions, or relationships we’ve been bound by in the past.

The truth will set the real YOU free that has been held captive and free you from the limitations of your unsaved, enslaved soul.

The power of authenticity is found in the human heart from families to nations. Authentic leaders aim to liberate the heart, their own and others.

“Embrace this kingdom life and don’t doubt God, you’ll not only do minor feats like I did to the fig tree, but also triumph over huge obstacles.” Matthew 21:21 (MSG)

Breaking free, getting clear, and finding that peace and confidence that makes life joyful is the purpose of The Soul Fast.
