Written with the help of Mark Manson. Author of the multi-million-copy bestseller The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck.

Will Smith thought, with good reason. That he had won at life. Not only was his own success unparalleled. His whole family was at the peak of the entertainment world.

Only they didn’t see it that way. They felt more like star performers in his circus, a seven-days-a-week job they hadn’t signed up for. It turned out Will Smith’s education wasn’t over.

This memoir is the product of a profound journey of self-knowledge and self-improvement. A reckoning with all that your will can get you and all that it can leave behind.

Few of us will know the pressure of performing on the world’s biggest stages. But we can all understand that the fuel that works for one stage of our journey. Might have to be changed if we want to make it all the way home.

My Review of WILL The Book

Since Will came on the scene with his clean rap and debut on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as an actor.

I’ve always been a Will Smith fan. I have always admired how he became more than a rapper.

You don’t become a megastar like Will Smith without picking up a bit of wisdom. And some amazing stories along the way.

Smith chronicles his life and career. He shares inspiring observations about the lessons he’s learned.

Lessons I Learned from Will

Lesson 1

The trick is: you bite off more than you can chew… and then you still chew it. Your mind always believes it can do less than it actually can. It will tell you it’s too much, to stop, to take a break, to cancel this or that. But your mind will lie to you to keep you small.”

Lesson 2

“There’s No Such Thing as ‘Just Business,’ Everything Is Personal.”  Will’s point wasn’t that you should say yes to everything. His point is that if you must say no to someone, say it with dignity and respect.

Even if you’re about to crush someone’s dreams, you can do it in a way that still honors those dreams. Denial should be accompanied by empathy and generosity, not cold detachment. Because it’s never “just business.” It’s always personal.

Smith is as fascinating as an audiobook narrator as he is on screen. He’s discussing painful topics.

Like how much of his drive and ambition shaped by his abusive, alcoholic dad. His raw honesty and charm shine through.

I loved hearing about his impressive rise as a rapper and actor. From touring with Public Enemy to negotiating a movie contract for tens of millions.

Every stop on his journey had me fascinated. Will is a memoir with as much star power as the celebrity behind it.

I must say that I was hesitating to buy this book but you definitely convinced me to read it. I’ve always been a fan of Will Smith since the Prince of Bel Air. I thought that its dedication to his craft and his family was truly the real deal for young people of color, though he is certainly not perfect. Thanks for your review!
